Contemporary copies of two funeral sermons preached by Dr. Samuel Benion and Matthew Henry occasioned by the death of Mrs. Katherine Henry, and likewise by the death of a Mr. Pell.

Material Features

The manuscript is fragile and is missing the front cover, but it is written in an exceptionally neat hand.

Provenance

The manuscript's owner is identified as Mrs. Holland, who was Katherine Henry's granddaughter and Matthew Henry's niece. "This manuscript was given to Thomas Stedman by his dear old Friend, Mrs. Holland of [word unclear] in Shropshire, May 24.1777. She is a Grand-daughter of Mrs. Henry, for whom ye following Sermons were preached; she was worthy of so pious an ancestor."

Acquisition

The sermon was a gift of Miss Rosina Daview, Ferry Side, July 14, 1938.
