Contents Note

The volume contains sermons preached in Coedhelen, Carnarfon during the 17th century. For the most part they are written in the same hand within margins ruled on three sides (not the bottom). The hand is impossibly tiny, although not difficult to read. Occasionally, marginalia, other comments, and heads of sermons are added in darker ink and a larger hand where there is blank space. On the fly-leaf is a list of "Textes conteined in this booke" with page numbers. On the recto and verso of this leaf are notes or heads of a sermon, but no preaching information is attached to them (no indication of biblical text, author, date, location, etc.). They are in the larger hand noted above. All of the pages between pp. 280-371 are blank, except for the following items. On p. 367 is the heading "Bookes at Walden" and the following information "S.7.X.2.10.B.Y. 6.7.2.8.5.9.T." (It is unclear what this means). On p. 369 is a record of money earned for marriages, christenings (or churchings?), and burials. On p. 371, the last page of the volume, is a list of "Text[s] preacht on at walden."

Acquisition

The manuscript was donated by Prof. and Mrs. Idwal Jones, Plas Penncha, Caerwys (November 1950).

Source of Data (Contributor name)

Jeanne Shami

Other Note

It is impossible to date the sermons more precisely. The manuscript owner appears to have been a preacher associated with Walden (Saffron Walden?).
