Other Note

The cataloguer notes that the date must be later than 1697 due to a reference to Sir Joseph Jekyll, Chief Justice of Chester, on the title page. Jekyll was Chief Justice from 1697 to 1717. The title page also refers to the "late" Bishop of Chester. The only Bishop of Chester who held the office in this period and had died by 1717 is Nicholas Stratford, so he must be the bishop in question. This also means the sermon must have been preached no later than 1707, when Stratford died, but the manuscript was created in 1707 at the earliest.
