Sermons by Edmund Camaly the Elder. Full title on f.1 reads: “The Summe and substance of 22 Sermons preached by that Reverend Devine Mr. Edmond Calamy, minister of Aldermanbery London, in the yeare 1652. Shewing how far a Hipocrite may goe in the Profession of Christian Religion, and yet come short of Heaven”.

The sermons seem to have been amalgamated without clear divisions, so sermon listings are approximate only.

Inscribed on inside cover by Samuel Sheafe, 1653.

Material Features

352 pp. Volume is clearly planned and well presented, with margins and headers ruled in red on every page and numbered pages. Includes an index at the back giving "some of the principal heads treated of in this booke'.

Provenance

This Jackson collection is made up of manuscripts, books and other items collected by the Jackson family of Sheffield over three generations. Collectors include Henry Jackson, Sr. (1771-1836), Henry Jackson, Jr. (d. 1866) and Arthur Jackson (1844-1895). For more details on each, see the Sheffield Archives Catalogue.

In 1912, Henry Jackson (Arthur’s brother) presented the papers to the City of Sheffield.
