Contents Note

Notes for sermons and on theological topics, including summaries of theological texts. Includes: ff. 6v-7v notes on sins (e.g. "Prodigality", "Ambition"); f. 39: Concio 4a, 1 Corinthians 11:28; f.42: Concio 5a, 1 Corinthians 11:28; f. 82 ff. 94v-136: Notes on Joseph Hall's 'Epistles in six decades', 1607-11; ff. 146v-149v commentary on 1 Corinthians 1; ff. 151r-158v commentary on 2 Corinthians 2; ff. 163r-165v - commentary on 1 Timothy 2.

Material Features

1 volume, 211 ff., bound in leather with gilt tooling and ornamentation, including the initials AH. Considerable water damage; several pages have been mounted. Ff. 11-34, 62-78, 176-7, 181-4 have been left blank and some pages have been cut out. Written in Dean Higgin's hand.

Acquisition

Higgin left his library (around 1250 volumes), to Ripon Cathedral on his death, and it is now preserved in the Brotherton Library.
