Contents Note

Contains notes for sermons and biblical passages, with cross references made between them (see ff. 162-164). Also contains summaries of controversial works, including f.36 Thomas Stapleton's Promptuarium (1598), Blackwell's examination and answer to Bellarmine, Bellarmine's answer to Blackwell, Bellarmine's letters to the clergy and laity of England; f. 99 Mussus Bipontinus in Christi nataliis; f.108 Resurrectio Christi e Stapletono f. 109 E musso observat: In Resurectionem Christii, f. 187 Articles of the disputation, January 7 1527. F. 2 includes a mainly unused index to the volume; f. 3v provides an index to the later sermons in the sections where contemporary pagination is used, including the dates of some sermons.

Material Features

1 volume, 179 ff. Rebound in boards ca. 1820. Some pages left blank: ff. 9-11, 26-31, 63-9, 71-86, 174-5. Some damp damage. Contemporary pagination towards the end of the volume.

Acquisition

Higgin left his library (around 1250 volumes), to Ripon Cathedral on his death, and it is now preserved in the Brotherton Library.
