Contents Note

Written in English, Latin and Greek. Contains notes on theological topics, including notes for sermons. Also includes a sketch for a monument, inscribed "Anth[ony] Higgin posuit Guilelmo Bircheo avunculo M.D.M. the truthe of God endureth for ever" (f. 2r); a copy of a "Scottish tune" and a lyrics to a popular round beginning "The hunt is uppe" (f. 2v); Secretae confessionis origo (f. 10); Chytraeus de morte, et consoationibus vi opponendis (f. 20); Chytraeus de anima (ff. 24-5); a personal diary for two days (ff. 31-4); A confession of faith from a child called Grace Bradburne (f. 37v); A dispensation (f. 41v); Concio habitate Wetherbiae martij 6o. 1585 (f. 42); The sacraments of the eucharist (f. 43); Psalm 23 (f. 50); Transustatiatio (f. 52v).

Material Features

1 volume (94 ff.) Some contemporary foliation. Written in one hand, in both directions. The inside cover has been inscribed "supposed of Dean [John] Wilkins". Bound in boards. Ff. 15-16 and 56-7 are blank.

Acquisition

Higgin left his library (around 1250 volumes), to Ripon Cathedral on his death, and it is now preserved in the Brotherton Library.
