Contents Note

The following has been written on the flyleaf (recto): 'Sermons upo[n] Sacrament dayes.' The sermons contained within this volume are centred on the Sacrament and the Lord's Table, mainly delivered at Canfield in Essex (preacher unknown). Judging by the hand, the sermons date from the seventeenth century. There is a list of contents in the volume, referring specifically to the Biblical verses, written in the same hand as the sermons. There is a list of abbreviations used within the sermons on the verso of the flyleaf, written in a later hand. Finally, the volume contains one loose manuscript leaf with devotional writing in a later, anonymous eighteenth-century hand, entitled 'The Paraphrase of the Final Blessing'.

Material Features

Quarto. Leather, brown. The St. Paul's Cathedral Library bookplate can be found on the inside front cover.

Source of Data

Hannah Yip

Other Note

There is an example of cross-referencing: the flyleaf (recto) of the volume states that the sermons preached upon the first four words of Christ can be found in another volume of sermons, in the manuscript owner's collection, which concerns the Epistles.

The hand used throughout the sermons is the same as that used for St. Paul's Cathedral Library, MS 38.G.15.01 and St. Paul's Cathedral Library, MS 38.G.17.01.
