Contents Note

On the first page is a letter signed from J.B. [Beaumont] addressed "Dear Cousin", which reads as follows: "Dear Cousin, I heartily condole your afflictions, and should bee sorry to renew your remembrance thereof, while I could not wait on you in time to take part with you therin & impart some timely comforts to you, it may possibly therefore seeme unseasonable to offer this paper to your peruseall but I shall be glad if it proves so, never[theless?] I pros[ ] it of good intent for the comfort you may receive from it hereafter upon all occasions as well as now, & for the strenghtening of your partience though it proves too late to beget it & especially for nourishing your hope of some greater blessing from God, if will Job you ca[] find & []ianly take his good pleasure in depriving yourself of what you enjoyed, which God of his infinite & boundless wisdom grant you for his beloved sonne Jesus sake amen, so prayeth yours to my utmost capacity, JB". This is followed by a sermon on Job and suffering, pp. 2-14, presumably copied from a print source, and followed by an extract from "St Patrick's paraphrase upon the Book of Job, profaeo pag. 12.13", pp. 14- 15. There is a single damaged leaf from another letter, also signed "Dear Cousin", which appears to be in the same hand.
