Title
Sermons of William Benn
Shelfmark
MS 960
Creation Date
1661 - 1662
Contents Note

Contains copies of sermons preached in 1661-1662. Six are directly identified as being by William Benn, and it is likely that all of them are. The volume also contains tracings and biographical notes on Richard Alleine by a later hand, initialled and dated "E.G. 1940"; and extracts of printed works on Alleine, the Act of Conformity, and the Five Mile Act, which have been pasted into the volume.

Material Features

1 vol., 445 folios. Bound in black book cloth. Written in a very clear, elegant hand by Richard Alleine, who has inscribed the book on the title page, and at many points throughout the work, giving the dates on which he copied (or finished copying) several of the sermons, e.g. ff. 22, 50, 68, 87v, 137v, 305, 333, 379, 391 v, 403, 418, 445v, with "Per me R.A.", "Script. R.A.", or "Finis R.A." The manuscript is very well presented, with clearly ruled boundaries on each page, blank pages between each sermon, and enlarged titles.
