Contents Note

A manuscript witness of the First Book of Official Homilies, executed by the calligrapher Robert Tyas. There is a hand-drawn title page (pen-and-ink) and decorated initials throughout. This is followed by a copy of the preface; according to the Christ Church Library online catalogue entry, this is taken from the 1559 edition of the Official Homilies. For the homilies themselves, the scribe appears to have retained the printed scriptural citations in the margins. This volume also contains a partial copy of Sternhold and Hopkins's Psalms. This manuscript appeared to remain in the possession of the Tyas family until it was bequeathed to Christ Church. It is part of the Western Manuscripts collection at Christ Church, Oxford.
