Contents Note

Extensive summaries of sermons preached by John Boys from 1680 to 1687. These gather together several sermons preached on one text in a specific year. The first two folios of the notebook contains a fourteen stanza poem on the sermons "discourses", dated April 21 1690. This opens: "Good things are written in this little book/ As may be seen by them which on it look/ First here the Guides of Youth & Young men too/ Are well Advised what they ought to do./ How Youth are shewne how they may cleansed be From sin which is the worst impurity/ And aged persons here exhorted are/ Well to look after all/ Were such advice followed by young and old/ A happy change in men we should behold". Each stanza seems to correspond to a group of the sermons which Bufton has summarised, as there are 14 entries in this book.
