Contents Note

Opens with "A Morning prayer for A day of publick Fasting & Humiliation" (f. 1-18) and "An Evening Prayer for a Day of Publique fasting & Humiliation" (f. 19-32) in presentation hand, only on recto pages. The rest of the volume is made up of brief auditor's notes of sermons delivered around central Devon from 14 June 1693 to 5 April 1694, written in a different hand. The first tranche of sermons are written on the verso pages only, in a vertical orientation. These are interleaved with sermons written on the recto folios.

Material Features

62 ff., foliated. A paper book with a sprinkled sheepskin binding and covered pasteboards with blind fillets round the edge of the cover and on the spine. Written in several hands.

Provenance

One of the Durham Cathedral Library Additional Manuscripts. The series seems to have been begun in the early 20th century but most of the material has come in since c.1960. Most of the material has been “presented”. Transferred into custody of Durham University Library at 5 The College, July 2016
