The sermon was published as The substance of that which was delivered in a sermon before the Commons House of Parliament, in St. Margarets Church at Westminster, the 18. of February, 1620 [1621] and again in 1624. “The second edition corrected and amended by the author” appeared in 1631 and is included in The Workes of the Most Reverend Father in God, Iames Vssher, Archbishop of Armagh, and Primate of Ireland (1631), with its own frontispiece and separate pagination, but lacking the dedicatory epistle to the Commons which precedes the sermon in the earlier editions. This early collection of Ussher’s works was a composite of pieces produced on several presses. The sermon was published again in 1681 and can also be found in The Whole Works of the Most Rev. James Ussher, D.D., Lord Archbishop of Armagh, and Primate of All Ireland, ed. by Charles R. Elrington and J. H. Todd, 17 vols (Dublin: Hodges and Smith, 1829-1864), 2.415–457. Ussher’s preparatory notes survive in Bodleian, MS Rawlinson D1290, ff. 49r–53r. The account found in Balliol College, Oxford, MS 259, ff. 71r–97v is probably copied from a printed edition.
