Preachings
1660-01-30 (old) - Standon - Anniversary of the execution of Charles I The sermon was preached c. 1660. No date or occasion is given in the manuscript. Arnold Hunt suggests that the occasion is a fast on the anniversary of the execution of Charles I. If this is so, the date would be 30 January.
Description

The preacher explains that this psalm 'is composed of prayses & of prayers' (cf. p. 2).

Other Note

Written in a rather hasty hand, self-described as 'very ragged' (cf. dedicatory epistle). Judging by the dedicatory epistle, this sermon may have been preached at Standon. The pages have red rulings. There are short summaries, 'uses', and Biblical citations in the margins. Arnold Hunt has conjectured that this sermon was preached at a private fast on the anniversary of the King's execution. Burke and Jonathan Gibson, eds., Early Modern Women's Manuscript Writing: Selected Papers from the Trinity/Trent Colloquium (Aldershot: Ashgate, 2004), pp. 205-236 (pp. 212-213 and 217-219).
