Description

This is a full transcription of a sermon. The sermon opens by stating the text in Latin: 'Reddite ergo que su[n]t cesaris cesari & qye su[n]t dei deo.' According to Susan Wabuda, Large argued for loyalty to the king and 'spoke in favor of the Protestant tenet of justification by faith alone'.

Source of Data (Contributor name)

Susan Wabuda, '"Fruitful Preaching" in the Diocese of Worcester: Bishop Hugh Latimer and His Influence, 1535-1539', in Religion and the English People, 1500-1640, ed. by Eric Josef Carlson (Kirksville: Thomas Jefferson University Press, 1998), pp. 49-74 (p. 66); Hannah Yip.

Other Note

Written in a standard sixteenth-century secretary hand for the most part. Italic hand is used to highlight significant passages such as quotations in Latin (f. 198r and f. 204v). There are some marginal annotations, e.g. 'prov. 27' (fol. 197r). The text is continuous; there are no paragraph breaks. The title of the sermon can be found at f. 207v.
