Contents Note

Contains 35 sermons preached in 1655 by various preachers. An index is provided at the end of the sermons that details the full names of the preachers, with their initials used throughout. The final page of the MS contains the following inscription - 'James Wodrow aught this book and he that stils this book from me I see he is bot a thif.' Wodrow's signature is also found repeated on the first folio, with another inscription - 'James Wodrow is my name and for to noryt I think no shame.'

Material Features

A leather bound notebook, there is some damage to the cover and the original ties are missing. The paper is quite frayed around the edges and there is some staining but the MS remains in largely good condition. There are page numbers (original to the MS) and no foliation, there are 314 pages in total.

Acquisition

Part of a collection of papers of Robert Wodrow held by the University of Glasgow. The manuscript was acquired from Charles W Wodrow Thomson on 8th July 1891.

Other Note

The hand used for the sermons does differ from Wodrow's inscriptions but these are also varied, making Wodrow the likely author of the MS. He was, in 1655, a student at the University of Glasgow.
