Other note
Eldest son of Patrick Simson, minister of Renfrew. Educated at Uni of Edinburgh and spent time in Holland, returning in 1700. Ordained as minister of Troqueer in 1705; appointed professor at University of Glasgow in 1708. He faced a number of charges for his unorthodox beliefs between 1714 and 1729, being prohibited from all ecclesiastical function on 13th May 1729. He married Jean, daughter of John Stirling, minister of The Barony, in 1710.
