Born in 1621 and educated at the University of Glasgow, he was ordained to the second charge of Paisley 12 September 1644. In 1651 he was transferred to the first charge. In 1654 he was appointed by the English Privy Council on the committee for authorising admissions to the ministry in the province of Glasgow and Ayr, deprived on the establishment of Episcopacy in 1661. He retired to Culross and after Covenanting losses he is said to have died of a broken heart, in Bo'ness on 13 March 1667.
