Contents Note

These notebooks contains notes on sermons preached in Boston and Roxbury. The notebooks include sermon notes of the sermons of a variety of ministers, including Revs. John Eliot and his son Benjamin Eliot.

Material Features

Two notebooks, written in a small, neat hand. Pagination added at a later date in both notebooks, though less consistent in the second notebook, and both are written so that the sermon notes run in reverse for a portion of the notebook. In reverse is determined by the pagination rather than the chronology. Mary Danforth written in both notebooks and "notes of sermons principally by Rev. John Eliot of Roxbury & his son Benj. Eliot" included on the cover of the first notebook.

Subsequent owners: volume 1: Henry A. Miles, donated to the Massachusetts Historical Society Sept. 29, 1836; volume 2: Chandler Robbins, donated to the Massachusetts Historical Society Oct. 28, 1843

This sermon has been digitized by the Massachusetts Historical Society. The Massachusetts Historical Society notes that the notebooks have been previously attributed to John Danforth despite Mary Danforth's name written in both.
