Note by Gerald Saltmarsh at p.403 describe contents as 'out of French generally fram'd to my own use.'
Note by Saltmarsh at p.403 says 'All these were copied out from my foul draught by Mr Mathews at London.'
This therefore seems to be a commissioned scribal copy of sermons written by Saltmarsh, some at least translated and adapted out of (unidentified) French originals. Saltmarsh is assumed to be the author' of any sermon in this MS. not otherwise attributed.

Material Features

Main hand and annotating hand similar to Bodl.Ms.Eng.e.2763 (also Saltmarsh's sermons).
Gilt-stamped calf-bound volume, labelled 'Sermons.'

Provenance

Unknown. Gerard Saltmarsh, Catholic priest, was Chaplain to the Duchess of Norfolk (see Person entry for Saltmarsh).

Acquisition

Acquired by the Bodleian from John Wilson (Autographs) Ltd in 1981.
