Auditor's Sermon Diary

Sermons on John 14:21 and John 14:14

“On May 23 1697 Being Whitsunday in the forenoon Mr Boys preached the same sermon from John 14:21 which he preached on Good fryday in 1686 from John 14:15 & on Good fryday in 1696 he preached this sermon. May 23 1697 in the afternoon Mr Boys preached on Easter day 1686 from John 14:15 from the same text he preached on in the forenoon that day to wit John 14:21"

Sermon on John 14:21 and Psalms 118:16

Note stating that “On the 10th of April being Goodfryday 1696 Mr Boys preached the same sermon from John 14:21 w[hi]ch he did on Good Fryday 1686 from John 14:15” and then, “April the 16 1696 Being Thursday was a general Thanksgiving for the discovery of a plot against King William. On which day Mr Boys preached the same sermon which he did in the afternoon on Sunday October 19 1690 which was a thanksgiving day also then from Psalm 118:29 he preached. But on the 16 April 90 he took for his text the 16 verse of 118 Psalm”.

Sermon on Philippians 1:23

Delivered by Mr Boys on August 18 1695, "being Sunday in the afternoon". Note stating “Preached the same sermon from Philippians 1:23 (wch was ye text he preached on at Mrs Judith Shortlands funeral) that he preached at Mrs Mounts funeral from Job 14:14 on Sunday June 20 1686”.

Sermons on Proverbs 15:3 and 1 Samuel 12:24

Note of a sermon on Proverbs 15:3 by Mr Livermore delivered on Sunday forenoon 2nd Junn 1695, but not described in full because "his sermon was the same in substance though not so large as one that he preached from heb 4.13 sept 15: 1689". Note of a sermon on 1 Samuel 12:24 by Mr Thomas Shortland on the forenoon 16th June 1695 “but his sermon I found was the same with Mr Gullivers preached from the text December 28 1679”. It is unclear which of the two brothers, John and Josias Gulliver, this may refer to as both were associated with Coggeshall.
