Sermon 1 on Hebrews 12:28

The full title of the sermon given on the title page, fol. 1r, is: "“A Sermon Preach’d | in St Maries Oxon. | Feb: 10: 1644: being the | Monethly ffast Day imediately | following the Decollation | of | The most Rnd Father in God | William | Lord Arch Bp of Cant: [William Laud]| upon Tower Hill. London." Jeremiah 26:14-15 also is quoted on the title page. The text for the sermon is noted on fol. 2r as 2 Corinthians 15.32, but the actual text is 1 Corinthians 15:32, "If after the manner of men, I have fought with Beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if ye dead rise but.
This sermon was preached 'the next Lords Day' after the execution of Christopher Love.
The sermon appears on the verso of p. 263 of the printed text in this volume. It opens as follows: 'In these words we haue two persons of remarkable cognisanse: the President & ye Prisoner: Pilate & ye King'.
Preached "In memorial of Godfrey Walker and Wife."
Written in a cursive hand. The full title of the sermon is as follows: 'A Sermon preached at Woodhall Hatfelde before Sr Raulfe Comingsbie Knight & other Knights & Gentleme[n] of qualitye, at the anniversary comemoration of that Worthy Knight Sr. Henry Butler.' The pages have faded red rulings. The running headers read as follows: 'A Sermon preached at Woodhall.' There are biblical citations in the margins.
