B.A. (1835) from Trinity College Dublin. Received MB degree in 1837, and later became DD and honorary LLD. Became deacon of Hillsborough, County Down in 1838 and curate of Lisburn, County Antrim shortly thereafter. Perpetual curate of Kilconriola / Ballymena, County Antrim beginning in 1841. Vicar of Lusk, County Dublin, 1857-1865. Diocesan librarian at Armagh beginning in 1861. Rector of Tynan, County Armagh beginning in 1865. Dean of Armagh, 1875-1886. Bishop of Down, Connor and Dromore from 1886 until his death in 1892.
