Shortly after in 1620, D'Ewes was ordered by his father to leave Cambridge for the Middle Temple; subsequently, he was called to the bar in 1624. D'Ewes was knighted on 6 December 1626. He was High Sheriff for Suffolk in 1639-40 and subsequently M.P. for Sudbury, Suffolk in 1640, a position he held for eight years. D'Ewes was created a baronet on 15 July 1641. He died on 18 April 1650 and was buried at Stowlangtoft, Suffolk on 7 June. D'Ewes is best remembered today as a diarist and antiquary. See J.
