Other note

The exact birth date of Paul Dewes is unknown. Born in London, he was the son of Garrat Dewes (c. 1533-1591), a bookseller and publisher, and Grace Hynde (d. 1583). Paul Dewes was a government official and one of the six clerks of the chancery from 1607. His first wife was Sissilia (c. 1581-1618), daughter of Richard Simonds, barrister, of Coxden, Chardstock, Dorset. Among their children was the diarist and antiquary Sir Simonds D'Ewes (1602-1650). Paul Dewes died on 14 March 1631. See also J. Sears McGee, An Industrious Mind: The Worlds of Sir Simonds D'Ewes (Stanford, CA, 2015).
