The exact date of birth of Ralph Barlow is unknown. Originally from Cheshire, he matriculated at Oriel College, Oxford in April 1594 at the age of twenty. Barlow graduated B.A. on 12 June 1596 and proceeded M.A. on 28 April 1599. In 1601, he was granted the living of Woodmansterne in Surrey. He was awarded the degree of B.D. from Corpus Christi College, Oxford on 19 June 1606. Barlow was licensed to preach on 29 October 1606. From this time, he became rector of Radnage, Buckinghamshire. Other livings included Farthingstone, Northamptonshire (from 1609) and Fawley, Hampshire (from 1611), in addition to a prebendary at Lincoln, which he held for ten years until 1618. He served as archdeacon of Winchester from 1609. He was awarded the degree of D.D. on 11 June 1610. Finally, in September 1621, Barlow was presented to the deanery of Wells. Ralph Barlow died on 20 July 1631, and was buried in Wells Cathedral seven days later.
