A collection of sermons. The volume has been dated according to a note on f. 156v, but also the Sermon on Titus 3:5, which was preached by Obadiah Sedgwick in 1630. See British Library, Harley MS 1198.
Quarto. Gold- and blind-tooled calf panel design with centre- and corner pieces.
The bookplate of Robert Harley can be found on the inside front cover of this volume. 'John Ashton[?]' is written on a front flyleaf in a rather illegible hand.
The Harleian Library was founded by Robert Harley, First Earl of Oxford (1661-1724). According to Cyril Ernest Wright, Robert Harley 'was primarily interested in English historical and political material and in volumes of sermons and theological controversy, sharing in the latter the taste of his Harley ancestors'. See Cyril Ernest Wright, Fontes Harleiani (London, 1972), p. xxxiv.

A Catalogue of the Harleian Manuscripts, in the British Museum (1808) conjectures that these sermons may have been written by William Sedgwick. The present cataloguer disagrees; the Sermon on Titus 3:5 was definitely composed by Obadiah Sedgwick (see British Library, Harley MS 1198) and there is insufficient information to suggest that the remainder of the sermons were preached by William Sedgwick. Note that Obadiah and William were not related.
