Commonplace book of John Bennet of Hart Hall, Oxford, containing sundry items including epistles, notes on texts, transcriptions of speeches, and notes on sermons, among other materials. The pages left blank by Bennet were in turn used as a commonplace book by Rev. John King, D.D. (1652-1732).

Provenance

Original ownership determined by note 'Sum e libris Johannis Bennet ex aula Cervina, Sept. 29, 1672" on f.3. The subsequent owner, Rev. John King, D.D., was responsible for the additional material added to those pages left blank by Bennet. Later part of the collection of Thomas Birch.

Acquisition

Bequeathed by Thomas Birch to the British Museum upon his death in 1766.
