An early-eighteenth-century copy of Richard Bancroft's sermon on 1 John 4:1, preached at St Paul's Cross on 9 February 1588. Includes a preface on schismatics (ff. 44r-88r) by Henry Gandy. Preceded by a letter from R. G. to Richard Rawlison dated 25 October 1748.

Material Features

Paper, 10 1/4 x 7 3/4 inches, 90 leaves. Corrections in Gandy's hand and another hand, including slips interleaved, pasted in, etc. "Dr. Goodall" is written on f. 89 in eighteenth-century handwriting.

Provenance

"Dr. Goodall" is written on f. 89v in eighteenth-century handwriting. This is probably Henry Goodall (c. 1707-1781).
