Contents Note

This volume appears to be the property (in 1699) of Richard Northcote. He is the scribe of the volume's contents (all in the same hand and recognizable by comparison with at least one other volume owned by himself and his son John). It is not certain that he himself heard and took notes of these sermons. It is a large folio, variously and confusingly paginated over time. It begins with a table outlining the texts and doctrines in the book, and sometimes includes information about occasions, locations, and preachers. The sermons appear to be Northcote's memorial reconstructions (perhaps from notes) and each has a running head identifying the sermon's theme. He has not been identified as the notetaker for these sermons, although in all probability he was. The contents are not organized chronologically.

Material Features

The volume is bound in leather, with blind tooling. The large folio pages are ruled in red at the gutter and header margins.

The Wilson presentation stamp indicates this volume was a bequest in 1876 from the estate of Joshua Wilson.

Other Note

At the back are doodles and scribblings, including "James Darkes Booke," "Elizabeth Diamond," and "Edward Holland 1745." The preacher identified only as "Rowswel" is difficult to pin down. The CL Catalogue suggests several candidates, but none can be verified with certainty.
