Provenance

f. 9r - 'Joane Dryland her Booke giuen to her by ye Lady Pallmer'; f. 10r - 'Lee Warly'; ff. 9v and 114v - 'Clare Warly'; 'Clare Warly her book / god giue her grace [...]'. The manuscript was also in the possession of the Rev. Alexander Balloch Grosart, who made the following note on the flyleaf on 18 June 1892: 'This little MS. volume contains not only an original and unpublished treatise on Prayer by Herbert Palmer B.D. (who prefixes a signed Epistle to his lady-mother) but actually his own original dated MS. of "The Paradoxes" that for 200 years were ascribed to Lord Bacon until my work "Lord Bacon not the author of the Christian Paradoxes" settled the matter at a stroke.' See Grosart, Lord Bacon not the author of "The Christian Paradoxes" (Edinburgh, 1865).
