Description

These notes seem to record a sermon preached by Philip Henry, Sarah's father, following his release from Chester Castle where he was imprisoned at the time of the Duke of Monmouth's rebellion. Just before this sermon is written "Dear Fa[ther] at Br[oad] O[ak] newly release fr[o]m imprisonm[en]t".

Other Note

The manuscript is written in such a way that it is difficult to tell whether it was this or the previous week's sermon that was preached by the returning Philip Henry. This sermon seems more likely than the previous one. This one praises what God has done and is followed by an afternoon sermon on Job (and the trials God has sent). ODNB reports that Henry was in prison for roughly three weeks. His last sermon, preached the Sunday before he was sent away, was dated June 28.
