Description
Notebook contains brief notes on sermons at London churches, 1698-1701. Aldersey sometimes noted the main heads of sermons, but he often only noted the text, the preacher and/or the location of the sermon. Aldersey seems to have been a parishioner at St Andrew Holborn, London, for he most frequently noted hearing sermons by Thomas Manningham, the rector of St Andrew Holborn. Aldersey often heard two sermons on a Sunday, and he heard sermons at a variety of churches, mostly in central London. He noted hearing sermons by some of the most popular preachers of the period, including Francis Atterbury, Samuel Bradford, Gilbert Burnet, Simon Patrick and William Sherlock.
