Letter from Edward Kellett to Samuel Ward, dated 7 August 1628, written from West Bagborough, Somerset. In this letter, Edward Kellett describes his frustrations with numerous alterations made by the ecclesiastical licenser during the printing of his sermon, which had been preached at Minehead, Somerset, on 16 March 1627. F. 293r comprises a list of 'Errata in D. Kellet his Sermon'.
This letter is dated 2 April 1628. Jenison tells Ward that he preached 'largely & long on Math: 12, 25.' According to Jenison, '[t]he next sabbath one Mr Potter [...] inveighed moste bitterly against mee in pulpit, telling I was a me[r]chant, a coleowner, a shipowner, & whatsoever might beare any shewe of evil to disgrace mee.'
This letter is dated 3 October 1686. The author of the letter states that he will preach his 'valedictory Sermon at Nackington' on the following Lord's Day.
A letter dated 21 May 1665 (Durham Castle). An extract reads as follows: 'You must know yt on friday last I preached ye visitation sermon at St Oswalds Church. And this morning my Ld told me he had a mind to have the sermon printed, & bad me bring it to him. I said little, & perhaps his mind may alter. […] My Ld said […] yt if the sermon was printed it should not be sold, but he would give […] Copyes to the ministers of his Diocese, & hoped they might do good amongst many.'
This letter, dated 23 March (no year given), addressed to John Thornton 'at Bedford House', is written by William Bates (likely to be the ejected minister William Bates who died in 1699). Bates describes some sermons which he wishes Thornton to pass on to the Duke of Bedford and members of his family.
'For the Reverend Dr Denis Grenville Deane of Durham At Sr George Wheelers hous in channel Row in Westminster in London' (see f. 283v). In this letter, dated 14 December 1684, Tynte refers to Grenville's sermon as a 'fine Book'.
An anonymous letter complaining of a sermon preached by Dr William Jane on 5 November (presumably in 1688). The date of the letter (1689) is conjectural.
The letter is dated 4 December 1688. Lloyd describes Gibbs' recantation sermon, delivered on 2 December 1688 at Gissing, Norfolk.
This letter is dated 4 July 1688. Samuel Saunders mentions a sermon on humiliation preached in Hereford Cathedral by one Dr. Johnson.
