Sermon by William King, copied from his holograph, apparently by William Reeves, the owner of the manuscript.
A sermon on the story of Lazarus, encouraging charity. Written in a clear hand on one side of the page, the facing page being used to provide further Biblical references and cross references to other works, e.g. "Sermons de Mussand 497". Parts of the argument are numbered. Some notes in Greek and Latin.
This is a copy of the original sermon. The printed version of 1678 identifies it as "A Sermon of Charity and Almes".
A sermon on charity. ‘Beloued since I came into this place I am tolde that I must exhort you to a charitable contribution to the poor...’ No biblical text specified.
The sermon commemorates the benefactions to Sandy Church, Bedfordshire, by John Wynne. This annual sermon was ordered to be preached in rotation by the
ministers of Sandy, Sutton, and Northill. The DWL cataloguer conjectures that the sermon was likely preached by William Steevens, but this is not certain. The sermon is complete, written in tiny handwriting (still legible), on small paper (unfoliated and unpaginated).
