This sermon is preached "upon acc[oun]t of ye peace between England and France." The header reads "It is ye Glory of a people to have God with them But there misery to be forsaken of him."
Prayer Before and Sermon on this text. The thematic heading reads "God, even ye Churches God, is ye God of Salvation!"
This is the front part of a sermon on the Gunpowder Plot. It is lacking its conclusion, but it is difficult to tell how much is missing.
This is a thanksgiving sermon "for the PEACE." Unlike most of the volume, it is not crossed through.
On p. 44, the author comments that because the sermon was delivered on November 5, there was mention of the Gunpowder Treason. If the first sermon extends pp. 1-44, this would be the second of seven sermons on this text extending over these pages. It is difficult, if not impossible, to see where sermon 2 ends and the other sermons begin. Sermon 1 could have had a separate entry, but its context is better understood in this record.
This Gunpowder Anniversary sermon, along with prayers before and after the sermon, is written in the same neat, precise, and small hand in which the entire manuscript is written. The gutter and top margins are ruled in black.
