Two notebooks, written in a small, neat hand. Pagination added at a later date in both notebooks, though less consistent in the second notebook, and both are written so that the sermon notes run in reverse for a portion of the notebook. In reverse is determined by the pagination rather than the chronology. Mary Danforth written in both notebooks and "notes of sermons principally by Rev. John Eliot of Roxbury & his son Benj. Eliot" included on the cover of the first notebook.

Octavo volume, 4 3/4 x 6 1/2 inches. Bound in vellum. Written in a very clear neat hand. There is a note on the fly leaf: “The gift of my Father to me Mary Aldersley May ye 11th 1695”. On the following page there is a further inscription: “note, that following sermons, though here put all together, yet were delivered by Mr. Sherrad at distant times, in ten years space, in his ordinary course. And therefore it is not to be thought strange, if (all tending to one subject) the same matters & heads of Discourse do sometimes recur. But it will be found, on several of them, that though the same matters be in several sermons, yet they are, for the most part, if not always, variously & differently treated of & inlarged upon”.

A small leather bound notebook, there is some fraying to the binding but it remains in good condition overall. The paper is in very good condition throughout. There are some incorrectly numbered pages - after p.126 the page numbering jumps backward to p.124, p.305 is duplicated and pp.236-237 and 240-241 are accidentally written as pp.336-337 and 340-341.The final 5 pages are in reverse - these appear to be sermon notes but there are no identifying markers of date etc. There are page numbers which are original to the MS, with c.363 pages in total.
