58 ff. A series of four stitched pamphlets, some of which include sermons. In the pamphlet with the sermon on Ezekiel 18:31, includes a draft bond by John Gold to George Ogilvy, tutor of Innerquharity (1694) written by Thomas Ruddiman, Latin verse, and a "table of reduction". There is also a small green envelope, marked Acc. 1888 which contained a sample of bark prepared for writing, with instructions for using it to perfume a room.

Leather bound quarto volume. A note on the front flyleaf reads "The D.N.B. mentions a ms. book of Sermons by R. Trail, on Galatians II.21--perhaps this is the book." Bookplate of the Religious Tract Society Library. The name Rob[ert] Tradd appears on f. iii and the same surname appears on the following recto. F. 1r consists of a title page reading "Six Sermons Preached Upon the 2 Gal:21 By Mr Robert Trail Servant of Jesus Christ in the work of the Gospel." The name Robert Tradd appears on f. iii and the manuscript was owned by Alexander Chalmers according to a note on f. iiv.

All of the sermons except one are written in the same hand, which is small but legible. There are a number of blank unfoliated pages before the first sermon and occasional groups of blank pages between sermons. At one of these gaps another hand has written a sermon on Luke 19:41. Ff. 32-33 are blank. The first hand has begun a sermon on Revelation 7:14 on f. 34v (a single paragraph) and the second hand has written a few lines on f. 35v. Ff. 36-39 are blank. There are a large number of blank pages at the end of the final sermon. Later binding stamped on the spine: "MSS Sermons by G. Wishart."

Quarto volume containing fair copies of Hog's sermons and sermon notes apparently copied from Hog's manuscripts. The front flyleaf verso contains the inscription "James Erskine's Book" and a bookplate bearing the crest of Hog of Newliston. A letter dated 4 January 1887 written by Robert Cumming McDougall to A. Hog of Newliston has been tipped in after the front flyleaf. McDougall indicates that he saw the manuscript at the manse of Kiltearn several years earlier and asks whether there has been any attempt to publish these sermons. Not foliated. Original pagination.

First part of the volume is missing. Original page numbering begins at 63 partway through a sermon. The first complete sermon begins on p. 81. The sermons seem to have been copied from another source. There are three series of page numbers: First series of page numbers 81-224; second series begins with the sermon on Acts 4:13; Third series begins with the sermon on John 21:7. Sermons in the third section are rubricated in red. The hand in the second section seems to be different from that in the first and third. The first and third may or may not be the same.

The binding is in poor condition. Stamped with J S on front of volume. Numbering of sermons begins with #41. The handwriting varies in size and neatness within sermons and throughout the volume, suggesting that copying was done at various times.
