6 sets of sermons notes, individually presented and numbered by the archive. Previously each would have been folded into a booklet, but they have been flattened out and presented as single sheets. They are written in one small, sometimes indistinct hand. The document wallet also contains a photocopy of a facsimile of a passage from Heyood's diary, given as a sample of his handwriting. A transcription has been made in pen on torn out pages from an exercise book of Item 1 (Sermon on Psalms 37:4), probably mid 20th century. Enclosed also are letters by Rev. Pearson and C.H. Simpson(?) dated November 1909 discussing the acquisition of the sermons, found in the effects of the late Mr. S. Louit(?). |

An octavo volume bound at the top in a paper cover from a later period. Written in a rough hand. The title and the preacher's name are often written in a clearer, fairer hand. Gathers suggest that this was previously two separate pocket books bound together. On the paper front cover is written in pen, “Notes of sermons preached by Reds. Bentley, Booth, Greewood, Alt, Heywood etc. written by John Lister of Over Brea, 1653-4." Written in pencil on the cover in another hand is, "Tillotson Sept 17 1654". |
